You are here: Home Free-N-Easy Lessons Lesson 3: Create a Custom Design for your Plone Website Uploading a New logo.jpg Image

Uploading a New logo.jpg Image

The instant you click Customize, you will be teleported directly to the new screen in your skin. Note below the underlined path showing this path.

teleported to your new skin which now has a logo file.jpg

The image looks the same, and it still is the same. It is an exact copy of the original logo.jpg object, but this one now allows you to change things.

Look down the screen and you will see both Browse and Upload buttons.

TIP: Before you proceed, let's say that you have cutomized and image (in this case the logo.jpg) and you want to use it as a starting point for any work you will do in a graphics program, like MS$ Paint or GIMP.  Anyway, you can right-click on the Plone logo image, and do a Save-Image-As or Copy-Image to get it onto your local C drive for editing. This is really useful if you are making small changes to icons or making a quick fix to something. See the example screen below:

a trick to get a logo to start with right click and saveas.jpg

Anyway, assuming we are using the lessons.jpg logo file located on your PC, simply click on Browse, find the file, then click on Upload.

after new logo uploaded.jpg

You probably will not see the image itself change right away, depending on the cache settings (sometimes you can see that the dimensions have changed, and the image might appear to be a little warped, but the image itself did not change.

Simply force the image to refresh by clearing your cache per this process:

  • On Firefox holding the <ctrl><shift><delete> keys
  • Confirm you want to clear the cache.
  • Reload the logo.jpg screen you are on by clicking the logo.jpg hyperlink at the right part of the /Plone/portal_skins/a_first_skin/logo.jpg at the top of the screen. This will reload this page and the new image of the "Lessons" logo will appear. Do not click the browser refresh or reload control, as it will refresh the whole ZMI, causing you to have to click back to the folder and object you are at - a pain.
