Why Make Another Website About Plone CMS?

InSmallSteps.com is focused on getting you real-life information about installing, configuring, and building a professional Plone CMS website or microsite.

Welcome to InSmallSteps.com

Jamie Robe, creator of InSmallSteps.com, a Computer Engineer, and a Plone user.I want to welcome you to this learning site, where nothing is theoretical and everything is practical. I am Jamie Robe, and over the past five years I have used Plone to create government, non-profit, business, and personal websites and microsites. If you ask any of my friends and family, they will tell you that I am literally addicted to open source software, especially Content Management Systems or CMS.

I have tried most of the CMS out there, and I honestly feel that the Plone CMS is the best way to create and maintain a website.

Plone Empowers You To Be Creative

  • If you are like me, you want to create a dynamic Internet experience both for your visitors and for you. Plone frees you from all sorts of drudgery, like HTML coding, uploading page after page of HTML using things like FTP.
  • It is a CMS and it loads a working website, ready for you to populate with text, pictures, multimedia files, documents, and any other content you wish.
  • It uses a skin system that is infinitely customizable to look like virtually any website. The skin can be changed as often as you like, without changing any of the content.

To Help Newbies and Experts Learn Something New

It doesn't matter if you are a complete newbie to the Internet or to web pages, or of you are a long-time computer professional who has made dozens of websites in the past using older software.

I have found that I can usually sit down with most individuals for an hour or so and get them being productive - not just adding content but making design changes.

  • InSmallSteps.com is designed to let me spend that "hour or so" with you, teaching you the essentials to get productive with Plone, so you can rapidly get a working production site on the Internet or your Intranet.
  • These free lessons is my way of giving back something to the Plone community.
  • I have also included a section of book reviews of all the major Plone books. I also have an Amazon.com Plone Book Store where you can check other people's reviews and get the latest prices.

I can't guarantee success, but I do promise that everything on this site is something I have personally tried and tested on real websites.
